Xiao Hui Wang, Wang Xiaosong
Although now poised for widespread popularity in China, abstract art still has a special status compared to figurative art. Its appeal in recent years has been increased by photographic artist Xiao Hui Wang and installation artist Wang Xiaosong, who seem »Western« in China and »Asian« to the West. Introspection analyses the latest works by these two renowned artists.
description
Photo artist Xiao Hui Wang creates digitally enhanced and seemingly abstract photographic works with motifs that are closely linked to the Chinese pictorial tradition. Her most recent work photographically explores the nanocosm. She lives in China and Germany. Wang Xiaosong is an installation artist who includes both painting and video in his works. His most recent exhibition, Unkontrollierte Ameisen, addresses social issues, such as the collision between East and West and the crisis of faith in contemporary culture. He lives in Asia but maintains contact with the West. Their work created a sensation as part of the Collateral Events at the 2012 Venice Biennale.
