Artificial intelligence

We maintain an open-minded approach toward the use of AI. Artists who engage with AI in a substantial way, such as Miguel Chevalier, a pioneer of digital art, find a place in our programme. In our publishing house, we are increasingly integrating AI to streamline workflows and allocate resources effectively, for instance in intelligent indexing, the optimization of production and sales processes, and in the field of metadata management.

AI also enables us to provide our customers with optimized purchase recommendations and to enhance our social media content. We are also developing ways of using error-free AI-based information transfer within a closed system, in order to combine the advantages of print and digital products.

It goes without saying that we use AI only in accordance with applicable laws, legal regulations, and the “human in the loop” principle, meaning exclusively under human supervision. For editorial and textual work, we continue to rely on our tried and tested collaboration with editors and translators. In agreement with our cooperation partners we examine whether support through AI can contribute to the high standards of text quality to which we and they are accustomed. Where this is the case, we indicate that we have employed AI. The creative work of our graphic designers, by contrast,  remains genuine craftsmanship.

We are mindful of the sustainability challenges associated with AI and strive to keep its use to a minimum in order to reduce our environmental impact. At the same time, we make use of the advantage it provides in releasing our employees from time-consuming routine tasks, creating more space for what truly defines a publishing house: high-quality content, strategic thinking, and creative ideas.
