One of the most important collections of 15th to 19th century Spanish faience ware inspired this first comprehensive examination of the genre in German.
Over the past 50 years, Christian and Alexius Feit managed to establish a collection that comprises over 450 pieces from the most prestigious Spanish factories of this period.
description
According to Spanish scholars, this is the best collection with works from various factories outside of Spain. Over the years, the authors became experts on this type of collection; with publications in the magazine Keramos, exhibitions, and an extensive library with over 500 relevant books and catalogues. This volume contains introductory texts on the decorative and technical aspects of the different factories and regions with numerous colour illustrations and analyses. The following part of the catalogue presents over 320 selected exhibits from the Feit Collection including photographs of reverse sides, stamps, and colour illustrations of registered comparative pieces which bear relevance to specific shapes and décor. All of the introductory texts on factories include in-depth descriptions of the main décor periods and different technical aspects. In addition, both authors provide new information on the various factories in question. This book with its almost 1800 colour illustrations not only offers a first comprehensive overview of an art historically significant topic, but also an insight into one of the most beautiful collections in this field.
